Collagerator (Windows / macOS)
If you are looking for a free software to make photo collages, you cannot fail to consider Collagerator, a very famous program thanks to which you can make collages easily, quickly and for free.
To use Collagerator, you must first download the program to your PC. Then connect to its official website, click on the button Download Collagerator. After that, if you use Windows, open the software installation package (the file in .exe), tick the entry I accept the terms of the license agreement, click the button four times in a row NEXTclick on your button Install and then end to conclude the setup.
If you use a MacInstead, the procedure you need to follow is much simpler: open the package .dmg downloaded and then move the Collegerator icon to the folder Applications (the "usual" procedure to install on a Mac program, practically).
As soon as you have completed the Collagerator installation procedure, you will finally be able to use the photo collage maker. Then start the program, click on the button New Collage present in its main window and choose one of the available templates, based on your personal tastes.
Next, click on the button capacitor positive (+) lead located at the top right to upload the photos to use for the collage and insert them in the boxes following the order you prefer. Finally, save your work by clicking on the entry Save with name from the menu Fillet. Più semplice di così ?!
ShapeCollage (Windows / macOS / Linux)
Shape Collage is another program that can be useful for you to create quality photo-mosaics. It is a free program for Windows, macOS and Linux that is very easy to use but which, compared to Collagerator (which I told you about in the previous paragraph), applies a watermark to the generated works and does not allow you to act freely on the photos inserted in the collage . These limits can be removed by purchasing the Pro version of the program which, at the time of writing, costs $ 40.
To download the free version of Shape Collage, connected to the official website of the program, click on the button Download located under the name of the operating system in use. Once the download is complete, if you use a PC Windows, double-click the file .exe just downloaded, click on the button OK, then click on the button NEXT, accept the terms of use of the program by clicking on the button Accept and then click on the buttons NEXT, Install e end to conclude the setup. If you use a MacInstead, the installation of ShapeCollage is even simpler: open the package .dmg and drag the ShapeCollage icon into the folder Applications.
Now, whether you are using a Windows PC or a Mac, drag the photos to be used for the collage in the main window of the program (to be clear, under the heading Gallery), and decide if you want to make your photo-mosaic take the shape of a rangle, of an cheart, of a hoops, etc. by checking the corresponding item.
After that, click on the tab Appearance and select the color or image to use for the background of the collage and then use the field Board to select the color and border size of each photo in the mosaic. After setting all these values, click on the button Crea and, if you are content with the result obtained, click on the item Save Collage As ... from the menu Fillet in order to save your work.
Canva (Online)
As I mentioned at the beginning, you don't necessarily need to install ad hoc programs on your PC to make photo collages, since there are numerous online services that can complete this kind of work. One of the most famous web services thanks to which it is possible to make photo collages and other graphic works is canva, a famous Web service (for some years also available as an app for Android and iOS) that can be used after free registration.
Canva has many advantages: it's easy to use, it's a versatile service, and it offers a very large catalog of graphics (most are free, but some can be purchased for $ 1 each). Let me explain how it works.
First, connected to the Canva home page, click on one of the buttons located in the box First time on Canva? Subscribe! in such a way as to specify the purpose for which you want to use the service and register through yours email or, if you prefer, through your account Facebook o Google by clicking on the appropriate buttons.
Once registered, click on the button Create a project located at the top left and click on the type of project Photo collage from the menu Recommended for you. In the tab that opens, select one of the many free templates among those present in the section Canva layout and replace the sample photos with the ones you want to use for your project (you can upload new ones by clicking on the button Uploads located on the left and then on the button Upload your images to upload it).
Of course, you can also add some text to the collage, add new ones elements graphics (e.g. stickers, lines, shapes, etc.) and modify them background by clicking on the options located on the left. When you have finished embellishing your collage with the aforementioned additional elements, save your work by clicking on the button Download located at the top of the page, then selecting one of the download formats from those available (JPG, PNG, PDF o PDF - Print) and finally by clicking on the green button Download give the menu to compare.
FotoJet (Online)
Are you looking for an online service that allows you to make photo collages for free, without making any registration and that, above all, does not apply annoying watermarks to your works? Then, FotoJet it could be the web service for you. This online service offers multiple free graphics, but many more are available exclusively to FotoJetPlus subscribers, which starts at $ 6,99 per month.
To make photo collages with FotoJet, first connect to its home page and then click on the button Make a Collage located at the bottom of the page. Then select the model you like best by choosing it from one of the three categories available: Classic Collage, the category in which there are "standard" collages that can be customized according to your tastes; Creative Collage, in which there are very creative and modern templates (such as the one that allows you to create collages like 3D cubes) or Misc, in which there are fun and quite original templates (like the one that allows you to create collages like a comic strip).
After selecting the template that inspires you the most, use the tools on the left to modify the project: layout, to change the layout; Photo, to add photos; Text, to insert text; Clipart, to add icons, stickers, and other graphics to it or background, to change its background color.
When finished, click on the icon floppy disk and, in the drop-down menu that opens, select the name to give to your project and select the download format: type the name to give to the collage in the text field located next to the item Name; select the download format of the output file (JPG o PNG) and, finally, the size with which to download it (Small, Medium, Etc.).
Then click on the green button Save and, in the window that opens, click on the button Save for Free Now and then on the link download here. On the web page that opens in the browser, you can then download the collage as you would any other image taken from the Internet (just click the right key mouse over the image and, in the drop-down menu that opens, click on the item Save immagine).
Free Photo Collage App (Online)

- Layout from Instagram (Android / iOS) - if you are looking for an app that is easy to use and free of various "frills", this solution offered by Instagram could be for you. As I have already explained to you in the deepening dedicated to apps for making collages, Layout is a 100% free app and very easy to use to create very simple collages.
- Pic Collage (Android / iOS / Windows 10 Mobile) - this semi-free app allows you to make collages in just a few taps. Works made with Pic Collage are marked with a removable watermark by making in-app purchases starting at € 0,89 per item.
