Preliminary operation
Before explaining what you need to do in order to configure Fastweb modem, it is good that you check that the device is correctly connected to the telephone socket and to the computer and that it is turned on.
To do this, make sure that the telephone cable is plugged into the wall socket and into the appropriate input attached to the modem, that the device is switched on (and if not, fix it by pressing the appropriate power button) and that the 'special warning light (generally colored green o yellow) present on the same in correspondence with the icon indicating the power supply (and if not, press the relative power button) and that the Ethernet cable has been inserted into one of the numbered ports of the modem and into the LAN port of the computer.
If the modem is wireless, just check that your computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network generated by the device simply by making sure that the Wi-Fi connection icon is present next to the clock in the dedicated area of the system tray of the PC or Mac.
Access to the control panel
After performing the preliminary operations above, start the Web browser that you usually use to surf the net and connect to the IP address of the router by typing the latter in the address bar and then pressing the button Submit on the keyboard.
To find out the IP of the modem, I suggest you take a look on the back of the device, you should find a label with the address written on it. In case this is not the case, you can try to consult the user manual of the router present in the sales package of the same. However, keep in mind that usually the router's IP address is 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254.
If the IP address of the modem is not indicated either on any label stuck on the device or on the user manual, you can locate it directly from the computer. To find out how, follow the steps below.
- If you are using a Windows PC, you can know the IP address to access the modem control panel by typing cmd in the search field accessible by clicking on the button Home on the taskbar or in the appropriate field accessible from the top right of the Start Screen. Then press Submit to start the program that has been selected automatically. In the window that will open at this point, type the command ipconfig and then press the button Submit on your PC keyboard to get the complete list of addresses related to your connection. You will find the IP address of the modem next to the entry Default gateway.
- If you are using a Mac, you can know the IP address through which you can access the modem management panel by clicking on the icon System preference (you can find the icon on the Dock, in the folder Applications or you can access it using the Launchpad) and then pressing on the item Network. In the window that will be shown to you at this point, select the name of the connection in use and click on the button Go ahead ... which is located at the bottom right. Then clicking on the tab TCP / IP you will find the address you need to connect to indicated next to the wording Router.
Also note that you may be asked to enter a username and password to access the modem panel. Usually, the combination to use is admin / admin o admin / password but there are cases where you need to use other settings. If so, you can take a further look at the label affixed to the modem or the user manual of the device to find out the right combination to use. Configuration
After logging in to the modem control panel, the initial device configuration procedure should start automatically. If not, try to locate the button to launch it, for example Configure, Setup o Wizard, and click on it.
Generally, the procedure for configuring the modem is able to automatically identify the necessary parameters to be able to surf the Internet with Fastweb. If this is not the case, first proceed by making sure that the modem option Bridging / Modem only both disabled. Otherwise, it will be necessary to deactivate it.
Then locate the voice, again in the modem configuration panel WAN and set the value to DCHP or alternatively on Dynamic IP Address Internet Connection Type. Then proceed by setting the parameter CPI su 8 and the parameter VCI su 36. Don't forget to choose the voice LLC to encapsulation. Finally, if required, set the ATM class su UBR.
At this point I would say that you have finally managed to complete all the basic configuration procedure for your modem and that you can finally try to surf the net using the Fastweb Internet connection.
To make sure that everything went well, make sure that the modem configuration panel indicates that an Internet connection has been established and that the lights on the modem are on and green.
Verification of data
After completing the procedure to configure Fastweb modem, keep in mind that to surf the net you will first need to verify your data. To do this, open a page of your favorite web browser, type in the address bar http://registrazione.fastweb.com e premium pulsating Submit present on the keyboard to display the Fastweb registration page. Then enter the required data following the instructions on the screen.
Then try typing www.configurehow.com in the address bar of your favorite browser and press the Enter button on the keyboard. If my site is loaded correctly you can tell you satisfied: the modem configuration has been done correctly and everything went well.
Additional configurations
If it is a modem with Wi-Fi connectivity, you will also need to set a password for accessing the wireless network. In order to prevent someone from sneaking into your Wi-Fi network and exploiting the Internet connection without your knowledge, I recommend that you use a key type WPA2 / AES very long and that does not make sense. If you then need to use programs such as eMule, uTorrent or other P2P software, I suggest you take a look at my tutorial on how to open the router ports. This is an operation that is of fundamental importance in order to make the most of this type of software and which, if neglected, can create many difficulties in using them.

Have you slavishly followed my instructions to configure Fastweb modem but still can't surf the net? Then I suggest you check more carefully that you have correctly entered the parameters to configure Fastweb modem that I indicated earlier.
Also keep in mind that most of the modems currently on the market are compatible with Fastweb but, as specified by the operator himself on his website, some may not be.
