Thats My Face
The first of the resources to create a 3D avatar that I want to send you to consider is the web service Thats My Face. It allows you to create a three-dimensional character starting from your own photo using a rather accurate facial analysis system. The peculiarity of this site lies in the fact that if you want you can request, upon payment, the creation of an action figure or other gadgets with the proportional face, always three-dimensional, of course. Note that to use the service you need to create a specific account.
To use it for your purpose, connect to the home page of the service and click on the button Upload Photos that you find on the left, scroll down the new page loaded and click on the button Continue then create an account on the service by selecting the link Create an account which is below and filling out the form that appears with the requested data (name, username, email address and password to be associated with the account). Then press the button Sign Up.
Once this is done, you will find yourself again in front of the main page of the Thats My Face website. Click the button once more Upload Photos, by your complaint Continue and fill in the fields on the screen to login with your account using the data set previously.
Then fill out the form on the screen by typing your name, your age, your gender, your ethnicity and choose whether to keep the beard or not (if present in the photo) and then click on the button Choose file / Open file che trovi in corrispondenza della sezione Fronal Photo and select a front photo of you and save it on your computer.
If you want, you can also upload photos of your left and right profile by clicking on the button Choose file / Open file that you find in correspondence, respectively, of the sections Left Profile Photo (optional) e Right Profile Photo (optional). Then click on the button Upload which is at the bottom and then on that Continue in the new page that opens.
Now, move the colored squares that appeared on your photograph on the left in correspondence with the points indicated in the example photo on the right and then press the button Submit that you find at the bottom of the screen and click on Ok.
Once this last step is also completed, an email will be sent to you from the service with the image of your three-dimensional avatar that you can download on your computer and use as you see fit. Keep in mind that the sending of the email by Thats My Face may not happen immediately. I also suggest you take a look at the folder Spam of your email address as the message may mistakenly end up in junk mail.
PhotoFace
Didn't the above service impress you in a particular way and are you looking for some alternative resource through which you can create a 3D avatar? I would say then that it is appropriate to try now PhotoFace. It is a further Web application used for the purpose that allows you to generate a three-dimensional, animated and even speaking avatar, always starting from a simple personal photo. The final result returned is definitely noteworthy. In short, try it now and you will see that you will not regret it.
The only thing you need to take into account is that you need to have Flash Player installed on the PC (for more information you can read my dedicated article). Alternatively, you can use a browser that integrates it "as standard" (eg. Chrome).
To use the service, first of all connect to the relevant website and then choose, by clicking on the buttons at the top left, whether to upload a photo of yourself from your computer (Upload photo), whether to take one at the moment with the webcam connected to the PC (Webcam) or whether to get it from the Internet (Search). If necessary, you can also choose ready-to-use images from those proposed below. Then specify if the face in the photo is that of a man or that of a woman and click on Next per due volte I followed.
Then press on the box Default photo and in the central part of the window you will immediately be shown the preview of your 3D avatar. If you want, you can even disguise your avatar as a celebrity. To do this, just click on the box Be a celebrity at the top right and choose the character you prefer.
Then customize the expression of the volt using the controls on the left. Do the same with the aesthetic features using the additional commands below. If you want, you can also add a background by choosing from those in the list located at the bottom left.
To make your avatar speak, you have to press on the links corresponding to the section Add audio. By clicking on Pre-recorder you can upload an audio file you already own, on Type In you can type a text for your 3D character to speak while clicking Use Mic you can choose to use the computer microphone to make a voice recording on the spot.
Once the changes are complete, decide whether to save the avatar created as an image or as a video by clicking on the links respectively Download image or on that download video at the bottom right then press on OK. Alternatively, you can share the avatar via email, Facebook, direct link or embed code, just select the relevant link from those available.
AvatarizeYourself
In an article all about how to create a 3D avatar it was practically impossible not to mention a service like AvatarizeYourself. It is in fact an online application capable of transforming the face depicted in the photo that is uploaded into a three-dimensional avatar, giving it a "touch" inspired by the famous James Cameron film, Avatar, in fact. The final result is very realistic as well as a lot of fun. Note that Flash Player is also required in this case.
You ask me how to use it? I'll explain it to you right away. First of all connected to the home page of the same and then press the button Skip which stands on the right to skip the introduction. Now, press the button Upload a photo and choose whether to create your avatar-style 3D alter ego by uploading the photo from your computer or from Facebook by pressing, respectively, on the buttons Upload My Photo o Facebook Pics. In both cases, remember to accept the terms of use of the service by ticking the appropriate box.
Now, make sure that the face in the photo is exactly in the center of the guidelines as indicated in the example image on the left and if not, position the cat correctly using the directional arrows bottom right. If you want, you can also zoom or rotate the image using the buttons on the left.
Then indicate whether the person in the photo is a man or a woman by ticking the relevant option next to the wording Select gender which is on the right and then click on the button Submit down. So wait a few moments for the chosen photo to be processed and then you will find yourself in the presence of your three-dimensional avatar inspired by the famous film.
If you want, you can change the chosen character by clicking on directional arrows che trovi in corrispondenza della sezione Characters, while to change the background used you have to press on arrows she can be found in the section Backgrounds. You can also change the character's facial expression by clicking on the buttons in the section Emoticons.
To download the image of the 3D avatar created, click on the button Share e poi quello Download. If desired, there are also options for sharing via email, social media, etc.
